A designated city can organise various events and projects during the year long designation as World Smart Capital. These are:
- FRAMING EVENTS - Key themes setting the broad framework for the World Smart Capital concept
- ENDORSED PROJECTS|EVENTS - Endorsed by the World Smart Capital Initiative, specially targeted at new urban developments
- LOCAL PROFILE PROJECTS|EVENTS -Individual local projects and events, each ranging in scope and size, with specific objectives to address local, regional, national or international audiences, as well as public and private sectors
- INTERNATIONAL THIRD PARTY PROJECTS|EVENTS - Being host of the smart city dialogue, organisers of international smart city related events and projects will be invited to stage their projects and events during the designation period
- LICENSED EVENTS - Existing events are able to use the World Smart Capital label to host a specific smart city item under a license agreement
- AWARD CEREMONIES - Presentation of awards commemorating achievements in urban development and the application of ICT technologies in particular
